There are two types of people in this world: those who think doing nothing (aka resting) is “wasting time” and those who believe rest is KEY to success. Reality Check: It’s impossible not to find accomplishment in the awards and success in the hustle.
It’s brain chemistry. A dopamine hit is a release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter in the brain that triggers feelings of pleasure and reward. The brain releases dopamine in small bursts after behaviors it considers beneficial, such as achieving something, doing something fun, or experiencing a pleasurable event. The dopamine hit reinforces the behavior and makes it more likely to be repeated.

True self-care comes when we get back to the basics. Complete honesty— Ian and I have done all of these inconsistently ourselves. There are days where I make the excuse of there not being “enough time”. Here’s a reframe for ya: it just isn’t a priority some days. And that’s okay. A balanced and calm mind should be a priority, especially when we feel we are at capacity and cannot manage anymore. That’s when we need it the most.
